MANGER OF ORCHESTRA OPERATIONS
The Manager of Orchestra Operations is responsible for the overall day-to-day operations of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, including planning for, supervising, and executing all concert activities, and ensuring organizational compliance with the RPO’s Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
JOB DESCRIPTION
Concert Production
Work closely with the RPO’s Music Director, Principal Pops Conductor, Vice President of Artistic Administration, and Vice President of Education in the execution of all concerts and events.
For all orchestra services, including those governed by 3rd party riders:
Bring forward rider items that require negotiation or clarification.
Work with RPO Stage Managers, IATSE officers, Shop Stewards, and Eastman production personnel to identify, assign, and hire required technical personnel.
Identify, negotiate, and acquire required equipment and instruments with local, regional, and national vendors.
Prepare stage plots as necessary.
Act as sound engineer or projectionist, when possible, to reduce production costs.
Arrange bus transportation for concert runouts and tours.
Per rider requirements, share with Artistic Coordinator all required hospitality needs.
MASTER SCHEDULE
With the Vice President of Artistic Administration oversee and maintain the master schedule in compliance with the RPO’s Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Create and distribute weekly, monthly, and annual calendars.
Prepare and distribute directions to RPO rehearsals and performance locations.
Manage and maintain the RPO’s OPAS database.
Budget
With Vice President of Artistic Administration create and maintain RPO concert operation budgets, including forecasting and actuals tracking.
With Artistic Coordinator oversee timely payment of all RPO vendors and technical personnel, including all expenses billed to RPO credit cards.
Monitor expenditures against approved budget.
With Artistic Coordinator organize written and electronic records related to all concert operation activities.
Equipment MAINTENANCE
Monitor and ensure the maintenance of all RPO concert production equipment including sound, lighting, instruments, cases, etc.
Create and maintain up-to-date inventories of all RPO equipment.
Oversee maintenance, scheduling, and tuning requirements of RPO pianos.
Oversee RPO truck lease and overall RPO car maintenance.
Make recommendations for new purchases of RPO equipment.
OTHER duties
In absence of VP of Artistic Planning and Operations, assume role of point person for all concert related issues and decisions.
With Audition Coordinator, assist in preparing and producing musician auditions.
