Francis W. Parker School is a renowned JK-12th grade independent day school. Founded in 1901 on the tenets of progressive education, the school currently enrolls 942 students and employs 200 dedicated faculty and staff members who, in addition to assistant teachers, substitute teachers and coaches, work together to ensure that the School lives up to its Mission to “educate students to think and act with empathy, courage and clarity as responsible citizens and leaders in a diverse democratic society and global community.”
We are currently seeking an Upper School Musical Director, who will work closely with the Upper School Drama Teacher to prepare a production for public performance. The musical director will oversee all aspects of the theatre production that involves music. This includes auditions, casting, rehearsing singers and orchestra members, ensuring the quality and consistency of musical performances once the show opens.
Essential Functions:
Audition the singers and make casting recommendations to the director.
Schedule music rehearsals in collaboration with the director, choreographer and stage manager
Help cast members learn their music and how to sing it (vocal coaching)
Lead music rehearsals
Serve as a conductor for all performances
Serve as a rehearsal pianist
Work with the sound designer when microphones will be used
Strong communication and organizational skills
Ability to work well with high school students
Ability to read music and fluently play the piano
Ability to teach vocal techniques to novice singers
