The School of Music at the State University of New York at Fredonia invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor and Director of Orchestras. The successful candidate will bring a spirit of innovation and collaboration in the leadership of a robust orchestral program. With primarily undergraduate students, the program includes full symphonic programs, fully staged opera productions, chamber orchestra, as well as partnerships with a variety of local and regional professional organizations. The successful applicant will also teach undergraduate and graduate conducting courses. The appointment begins Fall 2023.
The Fredonia School of Music is a thriving program with approximately 600 undergraduate and graduate students. The curriculum prepares students for careers in music performance, musical theater, music education, sound recording, composition, jazz, and music therapy. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Dean of the School of Music, the successful candidate will:
Contribute to curriculum development and refinement. A visionary spirit and enthusiasm for collaboration is highly desired;
Serve the School of Music in the preparation and conducting of symphonic programs, opera, classroom instruction of conducting, and leadership of the orchestral program;
Be active as a recruiter for the School of Music;
Active conducting presence at the local, national, and international level;
Additional areas of teaching and service may be determined depending on School needs and the candidates' individual interests, qualifications, and expertise;
Be aware of, understand, and follow all university policies;
Provide service to the department, college, university, and profession.
This is a full-time, tenure track position beginning Fall 2023.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master of Music Degree
Professional and/or collegiate orchestral conducting experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
DMA in Conducting or equivalent professional experience;
Opera conducting experience;
Demonstrated success at teaching undergraduate and graduate conducting;
Strong organizational and collaborative skills;
Demonstrated commitment to community engagement;
Demonstrated vision of the role and potential of the modern day orchestra, including experience in a broad range of diverse repertoire including (new works, world music etc);
Demonstrated commitment and ability to work with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and constituents in support of campus and department mission;
Demonstrated commitment to the university, division, and profession.
