Job Summary:

Responsibilities:

• Direct mainstage operas (L'amant anonyme by Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges in the fall and Later the Same Evening and Bastianello by John Musto in the spring);
• Teach opera workshop classes, in collaboration with a music director/pianist, and other opera courses as expertise and interest allow;
• Oversee the opera budget, in collaboration with the conservatory business manager and the conservatory dean;
• Coordinate the design process and all production personnel for mainstage operas, in collaboration with the theater department.

Required qualifications:

• Outstanding record of professional experience as an opera director;
• Advanced degree in opera theater, theater, or equivalent experience;
• Experience as a lyric theater director or equivalent performance experience; musical and linguistic expertise;
• Practical knowledge of theater technology;
• Experience teaching acting and/or movement to singers;
• Demonstrated success in working effectively and collaboratively with faculty, staff and students.
