Texas Lutheran University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in the TLU School of Music to begin August 2024.
We seek a colleague who demonstrates leadership and vision in the areas of music theory and piano studies; evidence of successful teaching and strong pedagogical understanding in both areas; ability to recruit and retain students; experience in collaborative piano; understanding of and sensibility for a wide range of students from diverse backgrounds.
Primary responsibilities include:
teaching the department’s music theory sequence;
coordinate all aspects of the piano division, including piano proficiencies;
teach piano lessons
collaborative piano
serving on audition, recital, and jury panels
ongoing pursuit of professional performance opportunities, collaborative music performances, publications, pedagogical research, lectures, and scholarly research.
The successful candidate will teach in-person classes on our Seguin campus.
Expectations include:
engaging in recruitment and retention initiatives;
university committee service;
academic advising;
involvement with the campus community.

Qualifications: Earned doctorate required (ABD considered with completion by August 2024). Review of complete applications will begin October 30, 2023, and remain open until December 11, 2023. Offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion of background check and pending budgetary approval.

unrestricted links to video recordings of teaching demonstrations – piano lessons and music theory (please use online platforms such as YouTube, Vimeo, or similar; videos should be directly accessible, without download, from a link),
submit a statement that addresses your past or potential future contributions to diversity through teaching, research, or service and/or your experience working with underrepresented student populations.
Also, arrange for three confidential letters of reference to be submitted separately. These letters may be from the list of professional references or from others. One of the letters should specifically address the candidate’s teaching experience.
Candidates reaching the final round of consideration will be expected to perform a 30-minute recital on campus.
