Position Summary: Performs all duties associated supervising and running the band program; conducts weekly rehearsals and music lessons; coordinates and directs the annual Christmas and spring concerts; and oversees the William Schuster Music Award program. Flexible time commitments are a must in order to meet the needs of group activities and individual students. Must be able to support and promote the University's Mission.
Academic Year Responsibilities
During the fall semester, there are approximately 11 Wednesday evening rehearsals from 7-9 p.m. (beginning in August) and ending with the Annual Christmas Concert scheduled for early December.
During the spring semester, there are approximately 12 Wednesday evening rehearsals from 7-9 p.m. (beginning in January) and ending with the Annual Spring Concert scheduled for early April.
In general, the Band Director will select the majority of the music repertoire during the summer of each year with additions or changes possible during the academic year.
Approximately 60 percent of time is spent as Music Director and 40 percent of time is administrative.

Required Qualifications: Education: A masters degree in music/music education is required; extensive knowledge of how to play a variety of musical instruments and music history.
Experience: Experience in music administration for planning and rehearsing concert band activities and conducting bands/wind ensembles at the high school or college level is required. Experience performing in ensembles and in building a concert band program and music administration is preferred. Skills: Must have patience, tenacity, and an expressive personality to be an effective music teacher; must have a 'great ear' for proper tone instruction and technical skills to guide the correct playing of a musical piece.
