SUMMARY
Gann Academy seeks an inspiring, creative Vocal Music Teacher for the 2023-2024 school year. This position will involve directing two vocal ensembles (Red Cleffers (choral) and ShenaniGanns (a cappella)). The Vocal Music Teacher is a member of the core faculty of the Arts Department, with activities including advising, supervision of special events, and related activities that contribute to the school community and the educational experience of our students. Preference will be given to qualified applicants who focus on developing creative musicianship with additional experience in digital music production and songwriting.
Job Responsibilities - Ensembles
Audition students for a cappella ensemble
Manage registration for vocal ensemble
Direct two 9th- 12th grade vocal ensembles, Red Cleffers (choral) and ShenaniGanns (a cappella)
Cultivate a positive learning environment and a cohesive team culture among singers
Support a student leadership team for ShenaniGanns consisting of an Assistant Music Director, Social Media Manager, and Concert Coordinators
Arrange music and create learning tracks for both ensembles
Select arrangements from resources and choral websites
Collaborate with a choral accompanist for rehearsals and performances
Plan logistics and transportation for performances
Job Responsibilities Classroom Teaching
Teach one class per semester
Prepare lessons and develop a curriculum
Teach, lead, and guide students
Manage student behavior in and out of the classroom
Grade student work promptly and consistently with school standards
Communicate clearly and effectively with students (in person and via email) regarding classwork, homework, assignments, and learning
Utilize technology and other educational tools to support student learning and engage in curricular and other initiatives as implemented by the Educational Administration
Education, Certifications, and Work-Related Experience
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in vocal music or equivalent experience
Three years of secondary-level classroom teaching experience preferred
Knowledge of subjects assigned
General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
Strong communications, public relations, and interpersonal skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree or equivalent in relevant discipline
Experience teaching in an independent school setting
Demonstrated and successful history with innovation in music education, technology integration, curriculum design, and student-centered and inquiry-based learning

Physical demands include dexterity for office machine/supply operation, including but not limited to computers, telephones, electronic calculators, copy machines, and printers. Stooping, bending, reaching for files or supplies, and sitting or standing for extended periods is common.
