POSITION SUMMARY
The principal librarian is responsible for providing and organizing all of the music needed for all performances of the largest professional orchestra in Florida and for maintaining the orchestra's library of parts and scores. The principal librarian works closely with the music director, musicians, staff and other conductors and guest artists as an integral member of the Artistic Operations staff. The position contributes to the creation of exceptional music presentations and patron experiences. The principal librarian will oversee an assistant librarian and library volunteers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Responsible for the acquisition and provision of printed music to musicians, conductors and guest artists for all orchestra services. Prepare and maintain music for all rehearsals, performances and recordings.
Concert production duties shall not be limited solely to music acquisition. Additional duties include bowings, editing, errata, music research and typesetting/copying. Ensures that all musicians have the correct music for each rehearsal and performance according to the provisions in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Administrative contact for music publishers, responsible for negotiation and management of hired materials, rental contracts and all related documentation and budgeting. Maintains accurate performance history records and submits repertoire reports to performing rights societies (ASCAP and BMI).
Curator of The Florida Orchestra’s permanent music collection and audio archives. Responsibilities include maintaining the current catalog inventory; conservation and preservation for proper storage and handling of all scores, music and equipment, including management of archival recordings.
Provides administrative support to artistic production team through detailed research and reporting of necessary instrumentation and additional repertoire information for all programs.
Provide confirmed program repertoire information to administrative support staff in the Artistic and Marketing departments and assist in proofreading final drafts of print material (programs, print ads, brochures) or other media, as requested.
Establish and/or maintain relationship with library volunteers or interns as applicable.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s of music degree or equivalent.
Prior major orchestra experience preferred.
Excellent communication skills
Proven computer literacy (Microsoft Access Database, MS Office, Dorico music engraving software, Hightail digital platform)
Ability to meet deadlines
Demonstrate flexible detail-oriented working skills and musical knowledge
