St. Martin’s Episcopal School is seeking a full-time Choral Director to transform and build its Middle and Upper School music program into a dynamic and innovative offering that opens up music for all its students, while also attracting, developing, and retaining talented and musical students. This position will start in August 2023 for the 2023-2024 academic school year.
Responsibilities:
Plan and direct a logical scope and sequence for Middle and Upper School course offerings.
Prepare a Christmas as well as Spring concert for the choir.
Play piano and coordinate music for Middle and Upper school weekly chapels, as well as other school ceremonies and services. (Knowledge of the Episcopal hymnal a plus)
Is a participating member of the Fine and Arts Department. Attends those meetings as well as those of the Division Heads.
Takes part in continuing professional development through inservice training, school visits, conferences, workshops, etc.
Establishes communication channels with parents, particularly with those of students having difficulty.
Carries out additional tasks (such as lunch duty, club sponsor efforts, detention duty, or field trip assistance) effectively.
Maintains good classroom management through positive relationships with both students and parents.
Creates a supportive environment for learning and encourages students to take artistic risks.
Qualifications:
The position requires an individual with a degree in music; master degree preferred.
Choir and/or vocal experience is required
Piano proficiency is a must
Previous choir director and/or choral director with an understanding of vocal pedagogy
Able to serve as musical director for the school annual school musical.
Experience with directing handbell choir is a plus.
Able to attend after-school and evening rehearsals at various times throughout the school year.
