Faculty Position - Music: Director of Choral Activities/Music Education
Position Description:

The Department of Music at Vanguard University of Southern California invites applications for a professional or tenure track position of Director of Choral activities, and Music Education oversight. Responsibilities include directing and recruiting for the University Concert Choir: One Voice, teaching courses in conducting, choral music education, and lead the National Association for Music Educators Student Chapter. Other duties and teaching assignments may be assigned as appropriate related to qualifications and experience. The University is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music. In addition, Vanguard University is located in beautiful Orange County, CA and enjoys easy proximity to Southern California beaches, Disneyland and numerous Fortune 500 and 1000 companies.
Essential Functions:

• Provide administrative oversight of the choral program,
• Conduct regular rehearsals with the University Choir: ONE VOICE,
• Adequate keyboard skills to play piano and direct students during rehearsals,
• Travel with the University Choir: ONE VOICE to engagements in churches, schools and community gatherings,
• Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed,
• Teach introduction and choral conducting courses,
• Teach choral music education courses: elementary music and secondary music methods,
• Mentor Music Education (Pre-Teacher Certification) students including leadership in the National Association for Music Education Vanguard University Student Chapter, and appropriate professional organizations,
• Recruit prospective students for the Department of Music and University,
• Maintain and continue to develop relationships with the alumni choir, churches, local schools, school districts and county,
• Develop and maintain a professional network, including relationships in professional organizations and community outreach.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• A terminal degree in music (DMA or Ph.D.). Applicants nearing the completion of their doctorate may be considered.
• Candidates should have teaching experience from an accredited institution and a record of professional involvement.

Salary:

Assistant Professor: $58,242 to $78,336

Associate Professor: $67,932 to $91,494

Professor: $78,846 to $109,548

Placement at appropriate rank (e.g., Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) and initial salary is dependent upon education, experience, and based on Vanguard's faculty compensation schedule. The upper range is reserved for candidates that demonstrate the highest level of proficiency within a particular rank.
