The Holton-Arms School seeks a collaborative, flexible, and enthusiastic Drama Teacher and Director to join our robust Performing Arts team to fill a full-time drama teacher position. The drama program provides students with the opportunity to develop their artistic voice, by deepening their skills and competencies around improvisation, devised theater, character study, ensemble-building, and physical and vocal expression. Students explore the actor's work as part of a theatrical community, learn to be strong collaborators in shared creative work, and gain verbal and nonverbal communication skills that promote creativity and confidence for the stage, and in life. The drama program offers classes during our school day, and through a robust extracurricular/co-curricular program offered after school. Candidates will need to be capable of providing differentiated instruction to meet the needs of students with a range of skill sets and prior experience. All aspects of Holton-Arms programming help develop students' competencies around Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging, Social Emotional Learning, and Global Education. These are integral to the drama program, and qualified candidates will be prepared to continue and expand upon our work in these areas. The drama program seeks to create a space where students feel prepared to take risks, grow, and deepen their understanding of themselves, others, and their world, and we invite candidates who are excited to be a part of this work.
Responsibilities:
Teach drama classes to students in grades 7 through 12 during the school day.
Direct 2-3 drama productions after school as part of our co-curricular programming during the fall, winter, and/or spring drama seasons.
Work with other drama faculty to produce 3 drama productions throughout the year including but not limited to preparing and attending auditions, scheduling, helping to hire outside artists, publicity, promotion, logistics, etc.
Engage in an iterative process of revising and enhancing the drama curriculum to best meet the needs of students.
Collaborate with members of the Performing Arts team, and beyond, to assist with other creative projects as needed. This could include planning and implementing interdisciplinary projects, helping drama students prepare college application videos and audition material, etc.
Qualifications:
3 to 5 years of relevant teaching experience
Bachelor's degree or higher in theater or theater education (A Masters in Theater or Theater Education, and/or professional performance experience preferred).
In-depth knowledge of dramaturge and best practices for drama education.
Experience working with students in grades 7 through 12.
Experience embedding Social and Emotional Learning and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging competencies into their curriculum.
Passionate about working in a single-gender educational environment.
Committed to creating a student-centered, project-based, and competency-driven classroom.
Proficient with technology and digital platforms in the classroom as they relate to enhancing the arts and educational experience for students.
Eager to collaborate with colleagues within and across grades and disciplines.
Committed to continued professional learning.
Collaborative, creative, and innovative teaching artists with a sense of humor, dedicated work ethic, and strong communication skills.
