Though the Drama Department was officially formed in 1986, theatrical productions have been a part of Punahou curricular or co-curricular activities since its founding in 1841. Punahou School is currently seeking a Technical Director & Academy Theatre Faculty who will take primary direction from the Director of K-12 Theatre/Academy Department Head and will be responsible to the various production directors for Punahou School production activities in support of all theatre productions such as Variety Show, Jr. School and Academy mainstage productions, musical and dance productions. Primary duties will include, but are not limited to:
Teach 1-2 Technical Theatre classes for grades 9-12 and serve as an Academy Advisor.
Supervising, advising, and mentoring students, and all production and operations aspects pertaining to scenic design, construction, lighting, and sound design and implementation.
Supervises job duties and day to day responsibilities for the Assistant Technical Director, technical theatre students, volunteers, and/or others providing technical support.
Actively leads and manages pre- through post-production technical project phases.
Position Details: Department: Theatre, Grades K-12 Status: Full Time Regular FLSA Status: Exempt Work Year: 10.5 Month School Year: 2023-2024 Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM, frequent early mornings, after hours and weekends to accommodate production needs
Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Theatre, Theatre, or related field. Master of Fine Arts in Theatre preferred, or equivalent professional experience.
Three (3) years of proven experience in theatrical set design and construction.
Three (3) years of experience as a teacher of middle school or high school students.
Two (2) years of experience in a supervisory capacity.
Contemporary knowledge of construction and set design, lighting design, stage rigging, audio and sound reinforcement, stage management or production management, professional standards of stage safety, current technical theatre trends and technological innovations.
