Additional Information:
Salary starting at $75,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications, and includes a competitive benefits package. This is an exempt position, requiring standard business hours M-F in the office. Additionally, there may be occasional evening and weekend hours required without additional pay.

Job Description: Controller
Position Summary: The Controller is responsible for the day-to-day activities of coordinating all accounting operational functions to ensure timely and accurate recording and reporting of monthly financial information. This position works closely with the accounting staff and Chief Financial Officer to meet monthly reporting deadlines for internal and external reporting requirements. The Controller is an integral part of the Finance Team and works with the Chief Financial Officer to map strategies to meet financial reporting priorities and maintain internal controls for the Orchestra.

Responsibilities and Skills:
Manage monthly accounting processes:
Work closely with Accounting and Business Operations Assistant and Payroll and Benefits Specialist to manage Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cash Receipts and Payroll processes. Monitor and support staff ensuring performance of day-to-day responsibilities.
Review work plans with staff to set manageable goals and ensure that each are on track to meet weekly and monthly deadlines. Focus on best practices, ensuring accuracy of data and timeliness of reporting.
Continue current staff development and adhere to management’s commitment to provide an atmosphere of learning and professional growth.
Manage, prepare and review month end close:
Work closely with staff to ensure that all payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivables and cash receipts entries are recorded and reviewed.
Ensure all Donor system transactions are recorded and reconcile general ledger reports to Development Department reporting.
Record balance sheet entries as necessary, including depreciation, prepaid expenses, investment activity, earned revenue and other standard accounting entries.
Reconcile bank statements each month.
Reconcile general ledger accounts on a periodic basis and resolve discrepancies when discovered.
Assist with financial reporting and analysis, budgeting and annual audit preparation:
Assist with financial reporting and analysis as needed and work cooperatively with departments to provide timely and accurate reports.
Assist with preparation of information requested for annual financial audit, retirement plan audit and preparation of the annual tax Form 990.
Provide other support to the Finance Department:
Maintain accounting controls and follow generally accepted accounting principles. Report anomalies to CFO.
Assist with risk management, oversight, and annual insurance renewal as needed.
Assist with budget preparation as needed.
Report anomalies to CFO .

Required experience and qualifications:
4+ years of accounting experience
2+ years of accounting-related management/supervisory experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
Strong skill-level in Excel
Competent financial analytical skills
Experience with Abila MIP preferred

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands, reach with hands/arms, listen and communicate. The employee must be capable of lifting and/or moving up to 30 pounds on a necessary basis and will occasionally be required to stand and walk for extended periods consistent with a typical office environment.
