The Owensboro Symphony is pleased to announce a search for a new conductor for the Youth Orchestra. This role will be a champion for music education and will be responsible for setting the artistic direction of the Youth Orchestra. Provide artistic and administrative leadership that helps the organization achieve its mission and goals and position itself for a dynamic future.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in music from an accredited institution
• Significant and outstanding record of string or wind teaching experience in the public/private schools or a youth orchestra program
• An established reputation as an orchestra conductor and teacher with a consistent record of creativity and innovation
• Ability to work collaboratively with the Owensboro Symphony students, administrative staff, board members, parents, and the community at large

QUALIFICATIONS:

Preferred:

• Work well and build relationships with Owensboro and Daviess County public/private school music educators
• Relate to and work well with a diverse student population
• Recruit students of different talent levels for the Youth Orchestra

DUTIES:

• Training and artistic development of the Owensboro Symphony Youth Orchestra
• Conducting the Youth Orchestra at weekly rehearsals from August - May culminating in 4 performances, one of which is a performance with the Owensboro Symphony at the Holiday concert.
• Engaging additional qualified individuals needed to assist in training if needed
• Selecting music to be performed and developing an audition standard
• Auditioning, selecting, and placing members
• Developing the artistic, educational, and service components of the overall program
