The Westerville Symphony at Otterbein University seeks an Executive Director/Development Officer. The Executive Director/Development Officer is the principal administrator of Symphony development and operations. The Executive Director/Development Officer establishes administrative and strategic plans in collaboration with the Board of Directors and implements policies set by the Board to achieve the Westerville Symphony mission and vision. The ED/DO supports the artistic direction of the symphony as provided by the Music Director. The ED/DO is responsible for managing fundraising, marketing, developing community partnerships, and carrying out day-to-day administrative duties. The ED/DO serves as the chief operating officer, with oversight from the Symphony Board of Trustees, and reports to the Board of Directors through the Board President.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Lead and manage initiatives that cultivate and solicit individual, corporate and foundations gifts, grants, sponsorships, endowment campaigns, planned giving and all forms of contributed financial support or materials for the WSO.
• Create, implement, and manage the annual development plan and strategy for raising the necessary funds required to run the organization and its related activities.
• Prepare and submit grant applications and reports to foundations, corporations, and government agencies pursuant to all deadlines.
• Work with the Nominating Committee to help identify and recruit qualified candidates for Board membership and assist with new member orientation.
• Establish and maintain communication channels between and among the Executive Committee, Board of Trustees, Music Director, staff, and volunteers.
• Prepare and manage annual budget in collaboration with the Vice President of Finance and the Board Executive Committee including preparation and presentation of financial reports.
• Participate in all Executive Committee and Board meetings providing detailed information and support. 
• Coordinate performance calendar, working with partners including but not limited to Otterbein University and The City of Westerville Parks and Recreation.  
• Collaborate with Otterbein University administration, faculty, and students in all aspects of Orchestra-University partnership in partnership with the Otterbein Liaison, Music Department Chairperson.
• Maintain all symphony records:  performances, fundraisers, events and participants.
• Oversee development volunteers before, during, and after special events and day-to-day development operations
• Network with community organizations, including the Westerville Area Chamber of Commerce and various service and cultural organizations in the community to strengthen business and community relationships.
• Establish and maintain membership in the League of American Orchestras and/or Association of Fundraising Professionals.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university or equivalent combination of education and experience is needed. 
• Three-five years of experience in non-profit fundraising/development is expected. Preference will be given to an individual with training and experience related to performing arts administration, including CRM usage. 
• Demonstrated proficiency in creating and implementing marketing efforts, including leveraging social media platforms.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from staff, stakeholders, corporate partners, volunteers, Symphony personnel and the public. 
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations.
• Ability to prepare budgets, read profit and loss statements, and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. 
• Ability to work on site, rather than remotely.
