The Executive Director reports to the FSYO Board of Directors and is responsible for the day-to-day operation of FSYO and its overall strategic direction, administration, and fundraising consistent with the policies and directives established by the Board. The Executive Director has broad authority to guide the operations of the FSYO in collaboration with the Music Director and the FSYO Board to achieve the organization’s mission and strategic goals. The Executive Director is responsible for the planning, coordination, supervision, and execution of all FSYO activities.
The multi-faceted responsibilities call for an individual with demonstrated leadership skills, having the adaptability to actively engage in various aspects of the FSYO’s functions, including but not limited to, strategic planning, collaborating with the board of directors, fundraising and development, artistic administration, concert production, marketing and promotion, education and outreach, finance/accounting, international/national tours, and general administrative tasks. Some nights, weekends, and ‘stand-by’ availability are required, largely dependent upon scheduled events and operations staff availability.
Florida Symphony Youth Orchestras is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that has served Central Florida for over sixty-five years. FSYO serves nearly 300 students and is comprised of seven ensembles: three symphonic orchestras, one string-training orchestra, a chamber orchestra, and two jazz orchestras. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
Extensive experience in business or public administration
Minimum of two (2) years experience in a non-profit environment or similar in event management and/or fundraising
Prior experience in music and/or arts production and education
Demonstrated efficacy with oral and written communications, use of technology, basic financial accounting, problem-solving, and social media
Master’s Degree from an accredited institution
Musical knowledge/background (i.e., college coursework, playing of instrument, vocalist, etc.)
Working knowledge of Central Florida schools, public/private music educators, and performance venues
Ability to work collaboratively with musical/administrative staff, board members, parents, partners, and potential funders
