Education and Operations Manager
Maryland Symphony Orchestra
The Operations Manager and Education Coordinator will be responsible for all details related to the MSO’s performances and educational programs to ensure that productions are run smoothly and in a fiscally responsible manner. Duties & Responsibilities: Develop the annual master plan for orchestra operations including rehearsal and performance schedules, hall rents, musician contracts, guest artist travel and itineraries, production budgets, and vendor contracts Attend all rehearsals and performances to coordinate production logistics and respond to orchestra personnel concerns while ensuring that the MSO is in compliance with orchestra policies and guest artist contracts Work with the Production Manager and Maryland Theatre technical to oversee logistics of venues, instruments, and equipment for rehearsals and performances Works with the Music Director, Personnel Manager, Production Manager, and Librarian to ensure that the musician’s working conditions create an environment conducive to artistic excellence Plan and coordinate all Educational activities Work with the Education Committee of the Board of Directors to set appropriate goals, hire necessary musicians, and oversee all aspects of educational programming Work with Executive Director and Education Committee to identify additional opportunities for the MSO to serve the educational needs of the community

Love of the arts Strong interpersonal communication skills Flexible, creative, and well organized Thorough knowledge of, and ability to read, orchestral music Proven ability to develop and monitor production budgets Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to maintain collaborative and positive interoffice relationships Ability to speak effectively with, and respond to questions from, patrons, vendors, partners, and the general public Able to prioritize and manage multiple activities, and meet multiple deadlines Sound professional and personal characteristics, including integrity, confidence, enthusiasm, analytical ability, the capacity to lead, and the ability to maintain confidentiality Excellent time management skills and attention to detail Ability to handle stressful situations with a pleasant demeanor Excellent computer skills and comfort with technology, including understanding of spreadsheets, word processing, mail merge, and cloud-based solutions Ability to work in evenings and on weekends, as needed Must possess valid driver’s license and access to a reliable automobile with appropriate insurance coverage |
