Vocal Music Teacher

Pingree is currently seeking applicants for the position of Vocal Music Teacher in the Art Department. We are looking for versatile candidates who possess a passion for and broad experience in the field of contemporary music as well as a desire to work collaboratively in a dynamic and collegial department of artist-teachers. This position includes teaching a minimum of three credits per trimester including full-credit and half-credit vocal ensemble classes, collaborating with a performing arts faculty team in teaching ninth grade and upper-level performing arts survey courses, and other elective music courses that may include music production, contemporary music theory, and/or music history.
In addition to classroom teaching, the Vocal Music Teacher will participate in two seasons of our after school, co-curricular program, including serving as the Musical Director for Pingree’s Winter Musical Theater Production, and one additional season of coaching or other activity. The Vocal Music Teacher may also serve as an advisor, and will participate in the life of the school community.
We seek candidates who are passionate about and have experience with exploring social justice through the arts, and have a demonstrated committment to creating equitable, inclusive, and anti-racist spaces in their teaching. The ideal candidate is a vocalist/teacher who has experience performing and teaching contemporary singing in solo and ensemble settings. Experience with contemporary a cappella and traditional choral ensembles is a plus. We seek candidates who are well-versed in contemporary music making, are experienced with creating and producing music using a DAW and other technologies, and also have instrumental experience. The successful candidate will be deeply invested in a student-centered and process-intensive approach to music pedagogy, will have enthusiasm and appreciation for working with adolescents of a wide range of arts experience, and will desire to take imaginative risks and to innovate in their artistic work and their teaching. Candidates should be enthusiastic about exploring collaborative, experiential, and interdisciplinary teaching opportunities within the arts and across other disciplines.

Potential candidates should have experience teaching music to students at the secondary school level. Applicants should be familiar with recent scholarship in music as well as current teaching practices including the application of new methodologies and technologies in the classroom. |
