Position Description: Heritage Hall seeks an Instrumental Music instructor for a full-time position in the Fine Arts department. Duties begin in early August 2020. The position includes teaching a variety of instrumental music classes to grades 5-12 in a 1:1 digital environment (one laptop for every student). Heritage Hall’s instrumental music program emphasizes strings and percussion with guitar and other rhythm instruments also playing an important role. All 5th graders participate in violin “capsule” courses while instrumental electives are offered to students in the 6th grade and older. Instrumental class sizes vary between 5 and 25 students and use a wide range of literature, modern and classical, to build skills in our young musicians. Upper School courses are generally year-long and may include Orchestra, Rock Band, Music Theory, Songwriting, and Music Production. In addition to daily music classes, they will be asked to work odd hours in the evenings and weekends that correspond with a robust schedule that includes two musicals, two musical revues, and several concerts. The Instrumental Music instructor also maintains an after-school studio as an extension of students’ classroom work.
Heritage Hall Fine Arts strives to create a collaborative environment in which teachers work together as inspiration and support for each other and as a model for students. This position will often team with other arts teachers on performance endeavors and other projects.
Other Responsibilities: In addition to teaching responsibilities, faculty at Heritage Hall may coach or supervise a variety of activities typical to a private day school environment, including advising, coaching, committee work, and supervisory duties. The candidate may be invited to sponsor an activity in an area of interest.
Education: An advanced degree in the subject area is preferred but not necessary.
Experience: Teaching experience is preferred. Familiarity with technology, knowledge of current pedagogy, and project-based learning are preferred. As part of a school, the candidate should have a passion for making a positive impact on the lives and learning of adolescents and an eagerness to work within a diverse student body of under 400 students.
Salary: Competitive with other area schools.
