Crossroads School for Arts & Sciences is a K-12 college preparatory school that believes that each student will develop a personal commitment to learning, respect for independent thinking and expanding curiosity about the world and its people. The Crossroads School is seeking an experienced music educator, with a focus in jazz, to lead its Upper School Music department, as well as conduct its competitive combos. The music department offers courses in digital and vocal music, music theory, as well as a funk, rock soul band and three competitive jazz combos.
The department chair is responsible for overseeing the daily running of the department, which includes:
Working collaboratively with faculty, other department chairs, school administrators, students and parents.
Working with music faculty and administration in evaluating the program and curriculum.
Hire music teachers and coaches
Coordinate department performances and commencement musical performances
The jazz conductor is responsible for:
Teaching and conducting three competitive combos
Teaching jazz theory class
Conducting orchestra (musical director) for school musical
Knowledge and practice of advanced level of jazz musicianship and improvisation
Ability to teach advanced jazz theory
BA d in related area (s), MA/MFA in related areas, preferred in related area(s)
5+ years of teaching in a school setting
