We are currently seeking a full-time Choral Director to start in the fall of 2020. Strong candidates will have a degree in music performance or music education and at least three years’ experience teaching and conducting middle school and high school choruses. A background in choral conducting, vocal pedagogy and strong piano accompanying skills are required. Knowledge and experience conducting a variety of genres in the SSA repertoire as well as the SATB masterwork repertoire is also essential. A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion work, an understanding of the importance of teacher engagement in community life, and an interest in using a variety of pedagogical approaches in the classroom are essential. Teach Lower School music classes including Class I Play, Class II Music, Class III music elective
Teach US music electives
Direct the Lower School Chorus
Direct Upper School ensembles including, Chorale and Chorale Sectional, Small Chorus, and Senior Small
Serve as Music Director for school musicals and performances
Prepare ensembles for performances throughout the year, including but not limited to the Fall Concert, Holiday Concert, March Concert, Spring Concert, May LS PAB concert
Develop an innovative and inclusive approach to choral curriculum and instruction
Demonstrate knowledge and experience conducting a variety of genres in the SSA repertoire as well as the SATB masterwork repertoire
Maintain the school’s choral music library
Collaborate with brother schools on musical projects
Coordinate and conduct music for graduation
Collaborate with Performing Arts Department colleagues on various projects
Act as an academic advisor, ILE mentor, and other duties, as assigned
A Bachelor degree in music is required, a masters or advanced music degree is preferred
Three or more years’ experience teaching and conducting choral music at the middle school and high school level
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent collaboration skills
