The Executive Director is responsible for managing all aspects of the organization, and implementing the policies set forth by the Board of Directors. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors (BOD) through the Board President. Ensure effective communication with the Association's constituencies, including, but not limited to: volunteer groups, other arts organizations, public agencies, government agencies, foundations, and the general public to achieve the public service objectives of the Association.
Fund Raising and Development
Assist Board and President in fund-raising activities.
Identify, prepare and submit grant applications and reports to foundations, corporations, and government agencies.
Develop with the Music Director an annual master plan for orchestra operations,
Arrange for transportation and accommodations for musicians and equipment for performances.
Ensure that rehearsals and concerts are properly staffed.
Attend all rehearsals and concerts. Provide additional staffing as needed.
Maintain minutes of all BOD meetings and BOD committee meetings.
In conjunction with the Governance Committee, develop, implement, and monitor compensation and benefits programs.
Develop and implement a marketing plan for subscription campaigns and for individual performances, using appropriate advertising and publicity to achieve maximum season and single ticket sales; overseeing ticket sales operations.
Prepare and submit for approval annual operating budgets. Monitor and authorize expenditures in accordance with approved budget; prepare updated projections based on actual income and expense activity.
Prepare monthly financial statements, including cash flow projections, for BOD review and approval. Review and approve accounts payable and receivable.
For nearly six decades, the Meridian Symphony Orchestra has been a focal point of arts and culture here in East Mississippi. Throughout its distiguished history, the MSO has maintained a tradition of producing great classical music concerts featuring the works of the master composers of the past and present as well as wonderful family programs like the annual Peppermint Pops - a favorite for hundreds of concertgoers.
The vibrant, artistic presence of the Meridian Symphony Orchestra is felt throughout the East Mississippi region and, as always, the MSA, Inc. will continue to pay tribute to its legacy as well plan its future with the sole purpose being to enhance the quality of life for everyone!
