Production Manager, Department of Theatre Arts & Dance The Production Manager is responsible for the scheduling, budgeting, and coordination of the department’s production season, which consists of approximately four mainstage productions, three specialty series, and twenty studio series within the theatre arts and dance disciplines. The Production Manager reports to the Head of the Design and Technology Program and works as a member of the production team to manage all of the day-to-day aspects of the production season in order to ensure successful performances and maintain positive relationships within the department and the community. The Production Manager supervises at least three full-time staff members of the production/design and technology team.
Communication 50% Facilitate clear communication throughout the production process and act as liaison between directors; designers, stage managers, and TAD production and administrative staff. This includes but is not limited to: coordinate and conduct all production meetings; attend design meetings (when invited), first read-through, designer run, technical rehearsals and previews as necessary. Assist all director/design teams through the design process to guarantee the timely completion of all designs. In coordination with appropriate technical staff, analyze all designs submitted to determine feasibility of execution with the allotted time, money, and available personnel. Hold weekly Production Supervisors Team (PST) meetings and other meetings as appropriate. Coordinate post-show de-briefs with the Head of the Design and Technology Program.
Scheduling 20% Maintain all production calendars, gather and disseminate all necessary information to complete and maintain accurate and up-to-date production calendars, including all design deadlines for production. Determine load-in, technical schedules, and strike for all productions. Manage resources for all shared facility spaces. Schedule and run all production meetings.
Contracting 5% Create contracts within hiring guidelines for outside hires, which may include directors, musical directors, musicians, designers, etc. Manage the procurement of rights and the payment of royalties.
Planning 5% Attend Season Selection meetings for the BA Theatre and BFA/Guthrie meetings, when appropriate, and assist in the planning and execution of upcoming seasons.
Budgeting/Fiscal Management 15% Develop and manage production budgets. Consult on facility needs and expenses as they relate to the Rarig Depreciation account. Assist in the application process for internal and external technology and infrastructure grants.
Other Duties As Assigned, including: 5% Back-up Department Facilities Representative and Primary Building Contact for Production Stage Manager/Building Coordinator; assist with building rentals.
BA degree in Stage Technology and/or Design
7 years professional experience as a Production Manager in medium to large size venues
Experience working with Dance, Devised Work and Text-based Performance
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail.
Proven ability to interact effectively with students (both graduate and undergraduate), faculty and professional staff
Proven ability to focus on many projects simultaneously and to meet deadlines.
Proven ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative and communicative team environment.
