The Denver Young Artists Orchestra (DYAO) announces an opening for our String Ensemble Conductor position. String Ensemble (SE) consists of string players ages 7-13. SE meets on Monday evenings at Bethany Lutheran Church, 5:307:00pm, and performs 3-4 times per year in venues across the Denver Metro.
DYAO formed in 1977 under the auspices of the Denver Symphony Orchestra, now the Colorado Symphony, as a means for Colorado’s most talented young musicians to rehearse and perform together under demanding professional standards. DYAO has operated independently since 1979. In 2018, DYAO and the Colorado Symphony became artistic affiliates.
The mission of the DYAO is to provide the finest possible youth orchestra programs, inspiring and educating young musicians through the performance of great works of music, and offering valuable cultural opportunities to the community. For forty-one years, DYAO has nurtured the talents of the Rocky Mountain region’s finest young musicians as an integral part of their musical education, helping them to achieve their dreams. The Denver Young Artists Orchestra has three orchestras and education programs training nearly 250 students, ages 7-23.
The SE Conductor will provide musical instruction, direction, and leadership to the SE while providing a fun place for students to grow. The SE Conductor will work closely with the Music Director and Executive Director to promote consistency and quality throughout the entire DYAO program. This is a part-time contract position. The following duties are required:
Conduct all rehearsals, retreats, and concerts for the String Ensemble.
Select suitable programming in consultation with the Music Director, Executive Director, and Orchestra Manager
Adjudicate all auditions for the Denver Young Artists Orchestra Association
Attend Board meetings as requested by the Board of Directors
Assist DYAO staff and Music Director in recruiting musicians for the organization
*NOTE: There is opportunity to add on a part-time Education Coordinator position and/or Group Strings Instructor position, depending on interest and fit.
String instrument as a primary instrument.
Post-secondary degree in music and/or music education.
A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in an educational setting.
Good with kids, positive, energetic, engaging, open-minded, empathetic, and team-oriented.
Committed to building strong communities.
Experience teaching string/orchestra to children ages 7-13
