Summary: Pacific Ridge School seeks experienced candidates for the position of Music Director for our Upper School Musical. Qualified candidates should be well-versed in the musical theater style and be enthusiastic about teaching high school students with varied levels of vocal ability. In support of Pacific Ridge’s mission, the Music Director is expected to teach, advise, supervise, care about the students, work in partnership with parents, advocate and promote the School, work collegially with administrators and fellow faculty, and grow professionally. The role of Music Director at Pacific Ridge School is a pivotal, dynamic position on campus.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Prepare for and run two days of auditions on October 2-3, from 3:15 pm - 8:00 pm.
Collaborate with the director and choreographer to plan three, three-hour music rehearsals, 3:15 pm – 6:15 pm weekly from October 14, 2019 through January 25, 2020.
Collaborate with the Stage Director and Director of Arts Programs in advance and as needed to plan for rehearsals that are student-centered and highly supportive of the students, so students can be as successful as possible in their rehearsals and performances.
Attend bi-weekly production meetings as needed with the Stage Director and Director of Arts Programs at mutually agreeable times to plan efficient, effective and student-centered rehearsals.
Conduct the orchestra during tech week and performances.
Collaborate with the Orchestra Manager to hire professional musicians and facilitate logistics of setting up the orchestra pit for the January 17-25 rehearsals and performances.
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Visual & Performing Arts
Qualifications and Education Requirements (including licenses or certifications)
Bachelor’s and Master’s degree preferred
At least three years teaching experience preferred, ideally at the secondary school level
Other Preferred Skills
Experience coaching singers for musical theater productions desired
