Position: Director, Sheboygan Symphony Chorus and Symphony Singers
Duties and responsibilities: The Director will be responsible for planning and conducting each rehearsal of the Symphony Chorus and Symphony Singers in collaboration with the SSO Music Director. The director will be responsible for recruiting and auditioning all singers for the Symphony Chorus and Symphony Singers and for soloists from the chorus as needed. The director will also be responsible for auditioning and overseeing the accompanist(s) for the Symphony Chorus and Symphony Singers.
Requirements: Significant experience as a choral director of a community, symphony or professional chorus, music education background, podium presence sufficient to enhance the quality of music-making by the performers, willingness to collaborate fully with the music director, and passion for engaging the community in support of the arts.
Availability: The Director position becomes vacant July 1, 2019. We anticipate choosing one candidate, but it is possible that two candidates will be given the opportunity to prepare a performance during the 2019-2020 season.
Compensation: This is a part-time position. Salary is negotiable, based on experience. The SSO is an equal opportunity employer.
Organization Description: The Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra (SSO), founded in 1918, is the oldest continuously operating symphony in Wisconsin. The Symphony Chorus is celebrating its 25th anniversary this season. The 70 - 125 member Symphony Chorus performs a minimum of 2 subscription concerts with the orchestra each season. The Symphony Singers is a chamber choir drawn from the full Symphony Chorus. The SSO is a dynamic orchestra comprised of professional and community members. The 70 member orchestra performs a season of six subscription concerts, 2 children’s concerts along with additional concerts. The concerts are performed in the beautifully restored and historic Weill Center for the Performing Arts.
The SSO is based in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin, a vibrant and growing area of the state. Sheboygan County is located 50 miles north of Milwaukee, and is presently the home of more than 100,000 residents.

About Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra
The Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra is the oldest continually active orchestra in the State of Wisconsin, performing concerts since 1918. The Stefanie H. Weill Center for the Performing Arts is home to our Symphony.
The orchestra members perform in five regular season concerts, holiday concerts, and annual children's concerts for Sheboygan County's fourth-graders. The repertoire is varied and provides a strong musical experience for the performers. Guest artists add to the variety and experience for players and the audience.
The Sheboygan Symphony Chorus was founded in 1994 by Janet L. Herrick and is currently under the direction of Fabian Qamar. The chorus performs up to three concerts per year with the Sheboygan Symphony with 80 voices composed of community members.
