Title: Technical Director, Master Carpenter, Theatre Production Class Instructor
Reports to: Performing Arts Department Chair
Full Time 11 Month Position. Exempt.
Basic Function: Provide technical support for all Talon Theatre and Performing Arts productions and events. (Instrumental and Choir Concerts, Dance Concert, Christmas Production, Talon Theatre Fall Production and Spring Musical and ComedySportz Matches)
Collaborates with Theatre Manager, Facilities, Talon Theatre Director and Performing Arts Directors on Technical direction for all productions and events
Establish a fun, yet professional environment to encourage greater student participation
Coordinates Production calendar to include all aspects on technical needs/schedules for a production
Technical Training: Theatre Production Class
Assist in selecting and supporting designers and production staff
Attends all Production meetings, Paper Tech, and Tech Rehearsals and Milestone Rehearsals
Shop safety and maintenance
Provides Technical Support for IB Theatre class projects, Theatre 1, 2, Musical Theatre, ComedySportz and Cabaret night.
Mentor student designers
Maintain technical production budget.
Manage load in and load out of productions and events. May be required to drive a truck to pick up scenery, props and equipment
Materials, lumber ordering and equipment rental.
Set Construction and Installation
TAPA Conservatory faculty
Attend/Chaperone State and International Thespian festival.
Other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS: CPR, Safety Training, Theatre Degree, Certification or Equivalent Experience
Knowledge of Basic Design Elements, Principles and Practices of audio and lighting both analogue and digital systems, construction practices, theatrical rigging, basic computer operations and skills, ability to read and interpret blue print drawings, estimate cost of labor and materials.

About Santa Margarita Catholic High School
Talon Theatre is an educational theatre community within the Performing Arts Department at Santa Margarita Catholic High School in Rancho Santa Margarita, California. Talon Theatre is rooted in the spirit of Caritas Christi and the philosophy of Theatre On Purpose which uses the performing arts as a way for students to discover who they are by nurturing their God-given gifts, talents and interests in a supportive, challenging and comprehensive training program in acting, musical theater, technical theatre and design. Talon Theatre students have the opportunity to follow a scope and sequence of UC approved courses from beginning through advanced levels in all areas of theatre arts over four years. In their junior year and senior years, students have the option of applying to the highly regarded International Baccalaureate (IB) Theatre course.
Talon Theatre students have the opportunity to design costumes, makeup, sets, lights, and sound for productions through the hands on Theatre production and IB Theatre classes. Talon Theatre produces 3 main stage productions annually in addition to the orming arts instrumental, vocal and dance concerts. Students direct, write and devise origi...nal theatre. Talon Theatre is a member of the International Thespian Society and is designated a California State Honor Troupe. Students attend the state and International Thespian Festivals. Other co-curricular activities include CAPPIES Critic Program and ComedySportz. Santa Margarita is a member of the International School Theatre Association (ISTA) and students travel abroad for festivals regularly. Currently, the school is engaged in a capital campaign to build a new state of the art 500 seat theatre with adjoining classroom spaces.
