Position Summary: The Winston-Salem Symphony's (WSS) Education & Community Engagement Director is responsible for the organization, implementation, administration, promotion, and ongoing evaluation of education and community engagement programs/initiatives that serve youth through retirees across the Piedmont Triad region of North Carolina. Guided by the Symphony Association’s mission, strategic and education plans, he/she ensures that the region enjoys both exposure to and active participation in music education and engagement experiences that are sustainable and replicable. The Education & Community Engagement Director is also responsible for cultivating a wide range of new/existing arts, education, and civic partnerships to leverage the Symphony’s service to and relevance throughout the diverse regional communities it serves.
The incumbent has supervisory responsibility for 5-7 direct reports including the P.L.A.Y. (Piedmont Learning Academy for Youth) Music Program Manager & Lead Teaching Artist, P.L.A.Y.Music Teaching Artists presently serving students in four elementary school locations, and the Education & Operations Manager. He/she also works closely with the Music Director, Assistant Conductor, General Manager, (external) music educators, Symphony musicians, Marketing Coordinator, and assorted volunteers and community partners.

The Winston-Salem Symphony (WSS) is in its 72nd season as one of the Southeast’s most highly regarded regional per service orchestras - this season is most notable as the audition season culminating the international search for the organization's fourth Music Director.
