East Tennessee State University Department of Theatre and Dance invites applications for tenure track Assistant Professor of Musical Theatre to begin fall 2019.
The successful candidate will teach classes in Musical Theatre Performance, Musical Theatre Auditioning, Voice and related areas, will accompany on piano (during rehearsals) and serve as Musical Director for at least one musical theatre production per academic year as well as end of semester showcases. Mentoring student performers, academic advising, service on Department and University Committees, on-going external research/creative activity, and other services to the Department are required.
The growing department has 75 majors, offers a BA in Theatre, and is National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST) accredited. Concentrations in Design and Technology, Musical Theatre, Physical Theatre, and Acting are being proposed for implementation fall 2019. (The Department of Theatre and Dance and the Department of Music, NASM accredited, work collaboratively academically and on musical theatre productions.) A new arts facility housing both theatre and music with a 200 seat flexible theatre, 1200 seat proscenium stage, and a recital hall are under construction with an opening date of spring 2020.

Terminal Degree (MFA, PhD, or DMA) in Musical Theatre or related field (Voice, Choral Music) is required. Ability to conduct the orchestra in musical theatre production is expected.
